Coming out of a long recess, we bring you a very full mailbag. We seem to have people fighting over Phuket and their festivals. Then a young man who loves to pronounce the Phuket itself. We equally have mails on Bill Cosby and finally a lamentation on Libya. Read on!

Tripoli is in flames and rival armed groups control the streets. The once beautiful city is in total chaos and shelled buildings are evidence of a brutal and bloody conflict. Residents have to queue for everything, and petrol even is in short supply. This is how Muslims (these terrorists are of course muslims) battle for supremacy and wreck their towns and people's lives in the process like unenlightened bullies.

I agree to the arguments that we need to start fighting back because no government will do it for us. These tyrants say it clearly: they cannot control their instincts, THAT'S WHY they rape children, THAT'S WHY they cover women, everything is a threat to their uncontrollable instinct... well, this will be the perfect solution to reduce their violence, and their number on the planet!

I read your post on the Phuket Vegen Festival and decided to write in. I will say that I find the activities of this festival gruesome even though I have not attended any. I have read that they are mostly performing a mind-over-body ritual by inflicting bodily wounds on themselves. Difficult deed you ever thought of. But there are still rumours that people get forced to do this at times...This is the same sort of religious extremism that cuts off the clitoris of little girls or allow people to blow themselves up and kill others in the name of some god or other. Too bad we find this in our current DNA age. Between, 360talkatives, you shouldn't be giving such cruelty any publicity.

I feel sad about your negative review on one of the my countries most cherished festivals. You do not have any idea about what it means to the people who observe it. At such times, is clearly one of the craziest periods of year in Phuket. Come to think of it, certainly THE craziest. Some people hardly notice the festival, as it really only affects Phuket Town and small communities with a Chinese-Thai background like Kathu, Sapam or Tha Reua. If you sit on the beach at Kata for the duration of the festival, you won't see anything. Some people hate it or are bored by it, or just moan that the street processions disrupt traffic around Phuket Town.

Personally I love it. I love the old traditions, love the way the local community comes together and maintains these traditions, I love the crazy street processions, love taking photos and I also use the vegetarian festival as an excuse for 10 days of detox. I stick to the diet, drink no alcohol – but I stop short of wearing white and impaling myself with sharp objects. I leave that to the real devotees.

Just a word on the Phuket Vegen Festival. The festival is partly about purifying the body by eating the right food, drinking no Chang beer, etc... But I hope nobody reads the words "vegetarian festival" and thinks that Phuket is full of hippies and tofu burgers and "meat is murder" T-shirts. Indeed, there is plenty of blood spilled during the festival. Some people are (so I believe) born to be Ma Song, or "Crazy Horses". Some of these Ma Song undergo acts of self mutilation or extreme piercing. By doing this it is said they bring luck to their community. Some of it is quite gruesome, some is more spiritual. But to out rightly suggest that they all are being horrific by their acts even when good intentions are meant, gives a hint or two racial bias.

• ·        Hi Daniel, this is how to pronunce Phuket in thai: The "Ph" in Phuket is a hard P sound, but not as hard as a normal "P", slightly softer with undertones of "B", then your 'u-ket'. Thus: P̣hūkĕt.

FAN SYMPATHY MAILS ON THE BILL COSBY RAPE ALLEGATIONS:

Hey,

From what I have been reading about all the allegations against Mr. Bill Cosby…and now all of a sudden he has 50 to 60 year old women coming up and accusing him of Rape….we are talking decades of silence….we're in 2014 boom …everybody wants to come forward now cause they know money is spent, so now it's time to drag Bill through the Mud…for what reason?…..you women need to tell the truth……I strongly Believe you ladies dated Bill Cosby for a price..I'm not saying he’s a saint…I’m only saying he’s a man…and he’s human…….It would really be nice if all the so called ladies tell the truth and stop degrading the poor ol' man.

My guess is that Lisa Bonet knows the truth. She certainly would have been a candidate for rape by Bill Cosby according to the MO being described. Because he seemed to drug his victims first, they would have no clear recollection of what happened to them. That is probably why most have not come forward. A violent rape surely would have been reported.
